Amazon, Google, and Microsoft collectively control roughly 65% of the global cloud market. For dePIN compute networks to carve out meaningful market share, they must match hyperscalers on three dimensions that matter to enterprise: reliability (SLA-backed uptime), latency (predictable response times), and trust (compliance, data residency, security). Price is necessary but not sufficient.
Render Network already processes GPU rendering workloads for production 3D and VFX pipelines. Akash Network hosts containerised workloads for Web3-native applications that don't require strict compliance. Aethir has signed enterprise contracts with gaming studios who need burst GPU capacity without maintaining on-premise rigs. These are real customers paying real money.
Regulated industries (finance, healthcare, government) require data residency guarantees that decentralised networks cannot yet provide. Mission-critical workloads require guaranteed SLAs with financial penalties for downtime. Training runs that span weeks need stable, persistent network topology. For these use cases, AWS remains the only viable option — for now.
